How do you calculate a discount?
For a percentage discount, multiply the original price by the discount percentage, then subtract that savings from the original price. For example, 35% off 129.99 saves 45.50 after rounding to cents, so the sale price is 84.49.
Can I calculate the discount percentage from a sale price?
Yes. Choose Find discount %, enter the original price and sale price, and the calculator shows the markdown percentage. It divides the savings by the original price, then multiplies by 100.
Can it find the original price before a discount?
Yes. Choose Find original price, enter the sale price and discount percentage, and the tool reverses the formula. A sale price of 75 after 25% off means the original price was 100.
Does the calculator include sales tax?
No. This page calculates the discount itself, before tax or shipping. If you need tax, calculate the discounted sale price here first, then apply your local tax rate separately.
Can I use different currencies?
