01 / Overview

How can I make my own flashcards online?

Add a prompt to the front of each card and an answer to the back, then start a study round. This free flashcard maker lets you flip cards, shuffle the order and review the ones you missed. Download your deck as a JSON file to keep it or share it.

How to use

  1. 01
    Write your cards

Add a deck title if you want one. Fill in each front and back, and select Add card for another pair. The editor shows three cards per page.

  2. 02
    Start a study round

Complete both sides of every card. Optionally shuffle the order or show backs first, then select Study deck. Select Show answer, or focus the flip button and press Enter or Space. Long card text scrolls inside the card.

  3. 03
    Review your recall

After revealing the answer, mark Needs review or I knew it. At the end, review only the missed cards or start another full round.

  4. 04
    Keep a backup

Open Save or import a deck and download the JSON file before leaving. Import that file later to restore the title and cards. Importing over existing work asks you to confirm the replacement.

Who it's for

  • Practice vocabulary in either direction with accented and non-Latin text.
  • Turn short class notes into question-and-answer review cards.
  • Rehearse interview prompts or definitions without an account.
  • Share a small study deck by sending its downloaded JSON backup.

Write one clear prompt per card. For vocabulary, include enough context to distinguish meanings: a card for "bank" could mean a financial institution or the side of a river. Line breaks, accents, symbols and text in different languages are preserved on both sides.

Choose Show backs first to practice the reverse direction, such as recalling a French phrase from its English meaning. Shuffle changes the order at the start of a full round. After revealing each answer, select Needs review or I knew it. The final count records your own judgment for that round.

FAQ

Are my flashcards uploaded anywhere?

No. Card editing, file reading and study rounds run in your browser. Your deck is held in this tab and is not sent to a server. It is also not saved automatically: download a backup before closing or reloading the page.

Is the flashcard maker free without an account?

Yes. You can create, study, copy, download and import decks without signing up. There is no paid export step. The tool uses the prompts and answers you write; it does not generate cards with AI or check whether an answer is correct.

How many cards can I create?

A deck can contain up to 200 cards. Each side accepts up to 2,000 characters, and the optional title accepts 100. Length is measured in JavaScript text units, so some emoji count as two characters. Imports accept JSON files up to 5 MB.

Can I save my flashcards and open them later?

Yes. Select Download deck under Save or import a deck to keep a JSON backup. Use Import deck to open it later. The backup preserves card text, line breaks and order. It does not contain study progress, shuffled order or your ratings.

Can I import Quizlet, Anki, PDF or CSV files?

This version imports its own version 1 CanDoYa JSON deck format. It does not import Anki packages, Quizlet sets, PDFs or CSV files. You can copy text from your notes into the paired fields. An invalid import leaves your current deck unchanged.

Does this use spaced repetition?

No. Study rounds are manual and have no review schedule. Needs review marks a card for another pass after the round, and I knew it records your own recall judgment. These ratings reset when you start a new round and are not saved in the backup.
