What is a typing speed test?

A typing speed test measures how quickly and accurately you copy a passage. Start typing and this free test tracks correct characters, mistakes, accuracy, and words per minute in real time. Choose 15, 30, or 60 seconds, then get an instant result without creating an account or installing anything.

How to use

  1. 1Choose a test length. Pick 15 seconds for a quick warmup, 30 seconds for practice, or 60 seconds for a more stable WPM result.
  2. 2Start typing. Click the typing box and copy the passage exactly. The timer begins with your first character, so there is no start-button delay.
  3. 3Correct mistakes. Watch the character feedback and use Backspace when needed. Accuracy and WPM update while you type.
  4. 4Review your result. When the test ends, compare WPM, accuracy, correct characters, and errors. Copy the result or try a new passage.

Who it's for

The test runs entirely in your browser. It starts with your first character and stops when time runs out or you finish the passage. Pasting is blocked, but Backspace works, so you can correct mistakes as you type. Your text and result stay on your device.

WPM uses the standard convention of five correct characters per word, including spaces and punctuation. That makes scores comparable even when the passage contains words of different lengths. Accuracy is the percentage of your currently typed characters that match the passage.

FAQ

Is this typing speed test free?

Yes. You can take unlimited 15, 30, and 60-second typing tests for free. There is no sign-up, subscription, download, or score limit. The test and its passages load with the page and run in your browser.

Is anything I type uploaded?

No. Passage comparison, timing, WPM, and accuracy are calculated locally in your browser. Your typed text and result are not sent to a server. Reloading or leaving the page clears the current test.

How is typing speed measured?

Typing speed is shown as WPM, or words per minute. This test counts the characters you typed correctly, divides by five to get standard words, then divides by the elapsed minutes. The five-character standard keeps results comparable across passages with different word lengths.

What is a good typing speed?

Around 40 WPM is a practical everyday speed for many computer users. Reaching 60 WPM with high accuracy is strong, while 80 WPM or more is fast. Your useful target depends on the task, so track accuracy and consistency as well as raw speed.

How is typing accuracy calculated?

Accuracy is the share of your typed characters that match the passage at the same position. If 98 of 100 typed characters are correct, accuracy is 98%. Using Backspace to fix a mismatch removes it from the current error count before the test ends.

Which typing test length should I use?

Use 15 seconds for a quick warmup, 30 seconds for repeat practice, and 60 seconds for a more reliable benchmark. A longer test reduces the effect of a lucky opening and better reflects the pace you can maintain.

Can I paste the passage into the typing box?

No. Pasting is disabled because it would produce a meaningless speed result. You can type normally, use Backspace to correct mistakes, reset the same passage, or load a new text at any time.
