How do you calculate age from a date of birth?

Count the full years since the birth date, then the full months since the last birthday, then the leftover days. This calculator does that instantly: enter a date of birth and it shows the exact age in years, months and days, plus totals in weeks, days, hours, minutes and seconds.

How to use

  1. 1Enter the date of birth. Pick or type the date of birth in the first field.
  2. 2Choose the second date (optional). The second field is set to today, so you get the current age. Change it to find the age on any other date - past or future.
  3. 3Read the results. The exact age appears as years, months and days, with totals in months, weeks, days, hours, minutes and seconds, plus the next birthday and the weekday of birth. Use Copy results to grab everything.

Who it's for

Everything runs locally. Your date of birth is never uploaded or stored - the age is worked out right on the page in your browser, and the tool keeps working offline once loaded. Change either date and every figure updates instantly.

FAQ

Is my date of birth uploaded anywhere?

No. The whole calculation runs in your browser - nothing is sent to a server, stored or shared. You can even load the page, disconnect from the internet, and it still works.

Is the age calculator free?

Yes - completely free, with no sign-up, no download and no limits on how many dates you check.

How is age calculated exactly?

The tool counts full years up to the last birthday, then full months, then the remaining days. Totals in weeks, days, hours, minutes and seconds come from the exact number of days between the two dates, so leap years are fully accounted for.

Can I find my age on a past or future date?

Yes. The second field is set to today by default, but you can change it to any date - see how old someone was on a historic date, or how old you will be on a coming deadline.

What about a February 29 birthday?

Leap-day birthdays are handled: the age still increases once a year. In common years the tool counts the next birthday from March 1 - the first day the person is a full year older - and the page notes this so the result is never a surprise.

Why does my result differ from another age calculator by a day or two?

Month lengths differ, so calculators disagree on the months-and-days part when a birth date falls late in a month. The years are always the same, and the total-days figure is exact everywhere - only the split between months and days can vary by convention.

Does it tell me when my next birthday is?

Yes. The tool shows how many days remain until the next birthday, the date and weekday it falls on, and the age you turn - handy for planning ahead.
