The preview is built from peak samples across the full recording, so short transients remain visible even when a long track is compressed into a small image. Choose bars for a social-player look, a filled silhouette for bold artwork, or an outline for a lighter overlay.

Transparent PNG output works well over video, podcast cover art, and presentation backgrounds. Normalization only scales the drawing against its loudest captured peak; it does not edit, compress, or change the source audio.

FAQ

Is my audio uploaded?

No. Your browser reads the complete file into memory, decodes it with the Web Audio API, samples its amplitude, and draws the PNG on a local canvas. Neither the source audio nor the generated image is sent to CanDoYa. Refreshing or closing the tab clears the temporary data.

Is the audio waveform image generator free?

Yes. You can create, customize, copy, and download waveform PNGs without an account, watermark, credit limit, or subscription. Processing uses your own browser, so the practical limits are the supported audio codecs, available device memory, and the 150 MB input cap.

What audio and image limits apply?

Audio files can be up to 150 MB. Custom PNG dimensions range from 320 to 3000 pixels wide and 180 to 2000 pixels high. A long compressed track may need much more memory after decoding, so a desktop browser is more reliable for files near the limit.

Which audio formats can I use?

Current browsers commonly decode MP3, WAV, M4A or AAC, OGG, Opus, FLAC, and WebM audio, but exact codec support varies by browser and operating system. If decoding fails, converting the source to MP3 or WAV usually provides the broadest compatibility.

Can I make a waveform with a transparent background?

Yes. Turn on Transparent background before downloading. The PNG keeps an alpha channel, so you can place the waveform over video, cover art, slides, or a website without removing a solid background in another editor.

Does normalization change my audio?

No. Normalize quiet audio only scales the height of the waveform drawing relative to the loudest sampled peak. It does not modify the file, change playback volume, apply audio compression, or create a new audio track.

Why can the waveform look different from an audio editor?

Waveform displays reduce millions of samples to the available pixels. This tool keeps the largest absolute peak in each time bucket and combines channels by peak, while another editor may show separate stereo lanes, averages, RMS energy, or a different zoom level.
