The serving ratio is calculated as target servings divided by original servings. Your draft stays in this browser so you can return to it, and none of the recipe text is uploaded. This scaler changes quantities only; it does not guess ingredient densities or convert measurement units.

What is a recipe scaler?
A recipe scaler adjusts every ingredient amount for a new number of servings. Enter the original and target yields, then paste the ingredient list. The tool multiplies leading quantities by the serving ratio, handles fractions and ranges, and preserves the units and descriptions you already use.
How to use
- 1Enter the serving counts. Set how many servings the original recipe makes and how many you want to make.
- 2Paste the ingredients. Put one ingredient on each line, starting measured lines with a whole number, decimal, fraction, mixed number or range.
- 3Check the scaled recipe. Review the live result and any lines without a leading quantity, which stay unchanged.
- 4Copy the new list. Copy the scaled ingredients into your recipe notes, meal plan or shopping list.
Who it's for
- Home cooks resizing a family recipe for fewer or more people.
- Meal preppers turning one dinner recipe into several planned portions.
- Bakers doubling or halving a formula without redoing every fraction by hand.
- Hosts and caterers scaling an ingredient list for a larger group.
- Recipe testers reducing a batch while keeping the ingredient ratios consistent.
FAQ
Is my recipe uploaded or shared?
No. The recipe scaler runs in your browser and does not upload ingredient text to a server. It stores the current draft in your browser's local storage so it can survive a refresh. Clearing the tool removes that saved draft.
Is the recipe scaler free?
Yes. You can scale as many recipes as you need with no sign-up, payment or download. The calculations happen locally in your browser.
How many ingredients can I scale?
A recipe can contain up to 1,000 lines and 100,000 characters. That is far beyond a normal home or commercial ingredient list while keeping the live result responsive.
How do you scale a recipe to a different number of servings?
Divide the target servings by the original servings to get the scale factor, then multiply every ingredient amount by that factor. A recipe that serves four scaled to six uses a factor of 1.5, so 2 cups becomes 3 cups.
Does it handle fractions and mixed numbers?
Yes. Leading quantities can be whole numbers, decimals, common fractions such as 3/4, mixed numbers such as 1 1/2, Unicode fractions such as ½, or ranges such as 1-2. Results use practical fractions when the value is close to one.
What happens to lines such as salt to taste?
Lines without a number at the beginning stay exactly as written. This preserves notes such as salt to taste, oil for the pan and garnish as needed instead of inventing quantities that were not in the recipe.
Does the recipe scaler convert cups to grams?
No. It scales each amount while preserving the existing unit and ingredient description. Converting cups to grams depends on the ingredient's density, so that is a different job from changing the number of servings.
