Pace is time divided by distance, while speed is distance divided by time. This calculator shows both views at once, converts between kilometres and international miles, and builds a checkpoint table for a steady effort. The distance presets use 5 km, 10 km, 21.0975 km for a half marathon, and 42.195 km for a marathon.

What does a running pace calculator do?
A running pace calculator turns a distance and finish time into your average pace per kilometre and mile, average speed, and even race splits. Enter any run or choose a standard race distance. The results update instantly in your browser, so you can compare targets without uploading or saving your training data.
How to use
- 01Choose the distance
Select a common race preset or enter a custom distance, then choose kilometres or miles.
- 02Enter the finish time
Add hours, minutes, and seconds. Minutes and seconds should each be between 0 and 59.
- 03Read pace and speed
Compare pace per kilometre, pace per mile, km/h, and mph as the result updates live.
- 04Check the splits
Use the even-splits table to view cumulative checkpoints every 1 or 5 kilometres or miles.
Who it's for
- Race planners turning a 5K, 10K, half marathon, or marathon goal into checkpoint times.
- Runners reviewing a workout converting a logged distance and elapsed time into pace per km and mile.
- Treadmill users matching an outdoor pace to the equivalent average speed in km/h or mph.
- Coaches and run groups sharing an even-pace reference across metric and imperial watches.
FAQ
Is this running pace calculator free?
Yes. The calculator is free, has no sign-up, and runs in your browser. You can change the distance, time, units, and split interval as often as you need without creating an account.
Is my running data uploaded?
No. Pace, speed, unit conversion, and split calculations happen locally in your browser. The distance and time you enter are not sent away for the calculation or stored as a workout.
What distances and times can I calculate?
You can enter any positive distance up to 1,000 km, or its equivalent in miles, and a finish time up to 999:59:59. That range covers track events, road races, trail ultras, and long endurance challenges without creating an oversized split table.
How do I calculate running pace from distance and time?
Divide total elapsed time by distance. For example, 50 minutes divided by 10 km gives 5 minutes per kilometre. The calculator converts the same run to miles using 1 mile = 1.609344 km, then divides the time by that mile distance.
What is the difference between pace and speed?
Pace tells you how much time one kilometre or mile takes, such as 5:00 per km. Speed tells you how much distance you cover in an hour, such as 12 km/h. They describe the same average effort from opposite directions.
Are even race splits a prediction?
No. Each row assumes the exact same average pace from start to finish. Real splits change with hills, turns, weather, crowds, fatigue, and pacing strategy. Use the table as a reference line for a goal, not as medical or training advice.
