01 / Overview

How do you split a video by time?

To split a video by time, choose a fixed clip duration or a number of equal parts. This tool calculates every boundary, keeps the shorter final remainder, and creates separate MP4 clips. The video is processed inside your browser, so you can divide private recordings without uploading the source.

How to use

  1. 01
    Choose a video

Drop a common video file into the tool or use the generated sample.

  2. 02
    Choose the split method

Set the maximum seconds per clip or choose between 2 and 30 equal parts.

  3. 03
    Check the plan

Review each calculated start, end, and duration before processing.

  4. 04
    Split and download

Create the MP4 clips locally, then download individual parts or one ZIP archive.

Who it's for

  • Meeting hosts can divide a long recording into shorter review or transcription batches.
  • Teachers can turn a full lecture into evenly timed lesson segments.
  • Social media teams can create fixed-duration pieces before selecting highlights for short-form posts.
  • Researchers and interviewers can break private source footage into manageable local clips without an upload.

Use By clip duration when every piece should be no longer than a set time, such as 30 or 60 seconds. Use Into equal parts when you need the complete recording divided evenly. The plan shows each start, end, and running time before processing begins.

The browser downloads a WebAssembly video engine only when you start splitting. Each output is re-encoded as H.264 MP4 for precise requested boundaries and broad playback support, then offered separately and together in one ZIP file.

FAQ

Is my video uploaded when I split it?

No. The source is read by your browser and the generated clips stay in this tab until you download or clear them. A WebAssembly video engine is downloaded when first needed, but your video is not sent to CanDoYa, stored in an account, or processed on a server.

Is this video splitter free and watermark-free?

Yes. You can plan, split, preview, and download the clips without an account, payment, credit limit, or watermark. The practical limits come from the memory and processing speed available on your phone or computer rather than an artificial server quota.

How many video clips can I create?

One split can create between 2 and 30 clips. The cap keeps browser memory and download management practical. For a fixed duration, choose a number of seconds that produces 30 clips or fewer. Very long or high-resolution sources may still be better suited to desktop software.

What happens when the video length is not evenly divisible?

Fixed-duration mode keeps the entire source and makes the final clip shorter. For example, a 125-second video split every 60 seconds produces clips of 60, 60, and 5 seconds. Equal-parts mode divides the running time into matching durations, rounded to milliseconds.

Are the split points frame accurate?

The tool re-encodes each clip instead of only copying compressed streams. This avoids snapping every boundary to an earlier keyframe and gives more accurate requested times. A boundary is still represented by the nearest video frame, so precision depends on the source frame rate.

Which output format does the tool create?

Each part is exported as an H.264 MP4 with AAC audio when the source contains a readable audio track. This combination plays broadly across browsers, phones, messaging apps, and presentation software. Subtitle and metadata tracks are not copied into the split files.

Why can splitting a large video take time?

Precise splitting decodes and re-encodes each requested section inside your browser. Source resolution, codec, frame rate, clip count, device speed, and available memory all affect processing time. Keep this tab open and start with a shorter source if your device is low on memory.
