The practical limit depends on device memory, source resolution, codec, clip length, and the browser. The tool warns when a file is large for the current device and blocks files above a conservative local-memory limit. A desktop browser is a better choice than a phone for long or 4K video.
The tool first tries an MP4 with H.264 video and AAC audio because that combination plays on many devices. If the browser cannot create it, the tool tries WebM with VP9 video and Opus audio. The result card and download filename always show the actual container that was produced.
An exact cut can require decoding and re-encoding the selected frames, which may cause a small generational quality change. The export keeps the source dimensions and uses a high-quality encoder setting. Re-encoding also lets the clip begin near the exact timestamp instead of snapping to an earlier keyframe.
Playback and export use different browser capabilities. A browser may decode a source codec for the video element but lack a WebCodecs encoder, or it may be unable to package the requested audio and video tracks together.
