What is a UTM link builder?

A UTM link builder adds campaign tracking parameters to a destination URL so analytics tools can identify where a visit came from. Enter the source, medium, and campaign name, then copy the correctly encoded link. Existing non-UTM query parameters and page fragments stay intact.

How to use

  1. 1Enter the destination. Paste the landing page URL. A bare domain is accepted and HTTPS is added automatically.
  2. 2Name the campaign. Add the source, medium, and campaign name. Keep spellings and capitalization consistent with your tracking plan.
  3. 3Add optional detail. Open optional campaign details for a campaign ID, paid keyword, or creative variation.
  4. 4Check and copy. Review the live naming checks, then copy the encoded campaign URL or open it in a new tab.

Who it's for

Build tagged links without manually placing ?, &, or percent escapes. The tool uses your browser's native URL APIs, preserves unrelated query parameters, and replaces stale standard UTM tags instead of creating duplicates. Everything runs locally in your browser, so campaign names and destination links are not uploaded.

Google Analytics treats UTM values as case-sensitive. Use one lowercase spelling for each platform and channel, such as linkedin and paid-social, to avoid splitting one source across several report rows.

FAQ

Is this UTM link builder free?

Yes. You can build and copy as many campaign URLs as you need without an account, download, or usage limit. The output updates live as you edit each tracking value.

Are my campaign URLs uploaded?

No. URL parsing, validation, and parameter encoding happen in your browser. The tool does not send destination URLs, campaign names, keywords, or creative labels to a server.

How many UTM parameters can I add?

The builder supports the six standard fields most campaign teams use: source, medium, campaign, campaign ID, term, and content. Source, medium, and campaign are recommended for useful attribution; the other three are optional.

Which UTM parameters are required?

Google recommends using <code>utm_source</code>, <code>utm_medium</code>, and <code>utm_campaign</code> together. They identify where traffic came from, how it arrived, and which promotion caused the visit. The builder lets you copy a partial link but clearly marks missing recommended fields.

Are UTM values case-sensitive?

Yes. Analytics reports can treat <code>LinkedIn</code> and <code>linkedin</code> as separate source values. A lowercase naming convention helps keep reports clean. The builder warns about uppercase letters but preserves exactly what you entered.

What happens to existing query parameters?

Non-UTM parameters remain in their original order, and the page fragment remains at the end of the URL. Existing standard UTM parameters are removed and replaced by the values in the builder so duplicate tracking tags are not produced.

What are utm_term and utm_content for?

Use <code>utm_term</code> for a paid search keyword or targeting term. Use <code>utm_content</code> to distinguish links or creative variants that share the same campaign, such as <code>hero-button</code> and <code>footer-link</code>.
