How do you convert weight units?

Choose the unit you have, enter a value, and select the unit you need. This weight converter calculates kilograms, pounds, ounces, stones, grams, metric tonnes, US tons and imperial tons instantly. It also shows every supported unit plus practical stones-and-pounds and pounds-and-ounces formats.

How to use

  1. 1Enter the weight. Type one number. Decimals, negative changes, scientific notation, and either a dot or comma decimal mark are supported.
  2. 2Choose both units. Select the unit you are converting from and the target unit. Use Swap units to reverse the direction.
  3. 3Read or copy the result. The main answer updates live. Review every unit, check the mixed imperial formats, or copy the conversion line.

Who it's for

The converter uses kilograms as a common base. Metric units scale by exact powers of ten, while the pound is fixed at exactly 0.45359237 kilograms. Ounces, stones and both ton systems follow from that definition. Results update as you type, and all calculations stay on the page.

US and imperial tons are different: a US short ton is 2,000 pounds, while an imperial long ton is 2,240 pounds. They have separate labels here so a shipping or engineering conversion cannot silently use the wrong ton.

FAQ

Is this weight converter free?

Yes. The weight converter is free to use with no sign-up and no conversion limit. Enter a value, choose two units, and the result updates immediately.

Is the weight I enter uploaded?

No. The conversion runs in your browser. The number you type is not sent to a server for processing or stored by the tool.

Which weight units can I convert?

You can convert micrograms, milligrams, grams, kilograms, metric tonnes, ounces, pounds, stones, US short tons, and imperial long tons. Any unit can be converted directly to any other supported unit.

How many pounds are in one kilogram?

One kilogram equals about 2.20462262 pounds. The reverse factor is exact: one international avoirdupois pound equals 0.45359237 kilograms. Multiply kilograms by about 2.20462 to get pounds.

How do I convert kilograms to stones and pounds?

Convert kilograms to pounds, divide by 14, and keep the whole-number stones. The remaining pounds form the second part. For example, 80 kg is about 176.37 lb, which is 12 stone and 8.37 pounds.

What is the difference between a US ton and an imperial ton?

A US short ton is exactly 2,000 pounds, or 907.18474 kg. An imperial long ton is 2,240 pounds, or 1,016.0469088 kg. A metric tonne is exactly 1,000 kg, so all three are different.

Can I use decimals or negative values?

Yes. Use a dot or a single comma as the decimal mark. Negative values are accepted because they are useful for changes such as weight loss or mass differences, even though a physical object's total mass cannot be negative.
