To remove silence from a video, scan its audio for quiet stretches, review the detected pauses, and export the selected cuts. This tool lets you adjust the volume threshold, minimum pause length, and edge padding before it creates a synchronized MP4 entirely inside your browser.

The default settings target the dead air common in talking-head videos and screen recordings. Raise the silence threshold when steady room noise hides pauses, or lower it when quiet speech is being mistaken for silence. Each detected range stays selectable, so you can preserve a deliberate pause instead of accepting an all-or-nothing edit.

Analysis and export use a WebAssembly build of FFmpeg in this tab. Export re-encodes the kept audio and video sections together as H.264 video with AAC audio, which keeps jump cuts synchronized and produces a broadly playable MP4.

FAQ

Is my video uploaded to remove silence?

No. The source video is read and processed inside your browser tab. The FFmpeg WebAssembly engine downloads when first needed, but the video itself is not uploaded to CanDoYa, stored in an account, or sent to a processing server. Clearing the tool also removes its local preview URLs.

Is the silence remover free and watermark-free?

Yes. You can analyze a video, review the detected pauses, export the result, and download it without payment, an account, a credit limit, or a watermark. Practical limits depend on the memory, speed, and codec support available on your device.

How large a video can I process?

The tool uses a conservative limit based on the device: about 100 MB on phones and lower-memory devices, 250 MB on a typical desktop, and up to 500 MB on high-memory computers. Browser video processing needs extra working memory, so long 4K recordings are better handled in desktop software.

What silence threshold should I use?

Start at -40 dB. Raise the threshold toward -30 dB when background noise prevents pauses from being detected. Lower it toward -50 dB when soft speech or breaths are being cut. The threshold measures audio level, so it does not know whether a quiet sound is intentional.

Why keep padding around a silent cut?

Padding preserves a short quiet margin on each side of a detected section. Without it, cuts can feel abrupt or clip consonants, breaths, and room tone at speech boundaries. About 0.08 seconds is a practical starting point, but slower speech may benefit from a little more.

Will the video and audio stay synchronized?

Yes. The export applies the same time ranges to both tracks, resets each kept segment to a common starting timestamp, and joins the segments in order. Both tracks are then encoded together into one MP4, avoiding the drift that can happen when audio is shortened separately.

Why was no silence detected?

The recording may contain constant room noise, music, or compression hiss above the current threshold, or its pauses may be shorter than the minimum duration. Try a higher threshold or shorter minimum pause. A video also needs a readable audio track for silence detection to work.
