Is my video uploaded?
No. Your file is opened through a temporary local browser URL, decoded by the browser, and drawn to an in-page canvas. CanDoYa does not receive the video or extracted image. Closing or resetting the page releases the temporary browser URLs.
Is the video thumbnail generator free?
Yes. You can capture and download as many thumbnails as your browser and device can handle. There is no account, watermark, paid export, or server upload. Large and high-resolution videos can still take longer to seek on older devices.
Which video formats work?
The tool works with formats your browser can decode. MP4 with H.264 video and WebM are the safest choices across current browsers. MOV may work when its internal codec is supported. A filename extension alone does not guarantee playback because the codec inside the container also matters.
Can I extract a full-resolution frame from video?
Yes. Choose Original resolution to draw the current frame at the video's native pixel dimensions. You can also cap the width at 1920, 1280, or 640 pixels. Smaller choices preserve the aspect ratio and never upscale a lower-resolution source.
Should I save the thumbnail as PNG, JPEG, or WebP?
PNG is lossless and suits text, slides, and later editing. JPEG usually creates a smaller, widely compatible photo file. WebP can balance detail and size for modern websites. The quality slider applies to JPEG and WebP, while PNG remains lossless.
Why is the extracted frame not exactly on the typed millisecond?
Video seeking depends on the file's frame rate, keyframes, and browser decoder. The browser displays the closest decoded frame at the selected time, so a requested millisecond can land on the nearest actual frame. Use the timeline and one-second step buttons to refine the visible moment.
