01 / Overview

What is a recipe unit converter?

A recipe unit converter changes cooking measurements between cups, spoons, milliliters, grams, ounces and other common units. It converts volume or weight directly and uses an ingredient-specific reference when you cross between them, so a cup of flour is not treated like a cup of honey.

How to use

  1. 01
    Enter the recipe amount

Type a decimal, common fraction or mixed number such as 2 1/2.

  2. 02
    Choose the units

Select the measurement in the recipe and the unit you want to use.

  3. 03
    Pick the ingredient

For a volume-to-weight conversion, choose the ingredient so the correct household reference is applied.

  4. 04
    Use the live result

Read or copy the converted amount, then adjust any field to recalculate instantly.

Who it's for

  • Bakers converting US cup recipes into grams for a kitchen scale.
  • Home cooks translating tablespoons and fluid ounces into milliliters.
  • International recipe readers adapting unfamiliar measurements to the tools in their kitchen.
  • Recipe testers checking both directions before documenting a formula.
  • Meal preppers standardizing ingredient amounts across notes from different sources.

Choose an amount, the unit in your recipe and the unit you need. Volume-to-weight results use the selected ingredient, while volume-to-volume and weight-to-weight conversions use fixed unit factors. Your latest settings stay in this browser and no recipe data is uploaded.

FAQ

Is my recipe data uploaded?

No. The converter performs every calculation in your browser. It saves only the current amount and unit choices in local browser storage so they can survive a refresh. No ingredient list or measurement is sent to a server.

Is the recipe unit converter free?

Yes. You can make unlimited cooking measurement conversions with no account, payment or download. The tool runs locally in a modern web browser.

How large an amount can I convert?

You can convert any non-negative amount up to one billion units. The input accepts whole numbers, decimals, simple fractions, mixed numbers and common Unicode fractions.

How many grams are in one cup?

It depends on the ingredient. One US cup holds about 236.6 milliliters, but a level cup of all-purpose flour is commonly referenced at 120 grams while a cup of honey is much heavier. Select the ingredient before converting cups to grams.

Does the converter accept fractions?

Yes. You can enter values such as 1/2, 1 1/2, 1-1/2 or Unicode fractions such as ½. The result is displayed as a concise decimal that is easier to use with a scale or graduated measure.

Are cups and tablespoons the same size in every country?

No. This tool uses US customary cups, tablespoons, teaspoons and fluid ounces. Metric cups are often 250 milliliters, and Australian tablespoons are commonly 20 milliliters, so check the recipe's origin when precision matters.

Why is a cups-to-grams result only an estimate?

Cups measure volume while grams measure mass. Flour can settle or become compacted, brown sugar may be packed differently, and ingredient moisture varies. The converter uses a practical grams-per-cup reference, but a scale gives the most repeatable result.

Can this tool resize a full recipe for more servings?

This converter changes one measurement from one unit to another. To multiply every ingredient for a different yield, use the separate Recipe Scaler, which preserves each unit and adjusts quantities by the serving ratio.
