Schedule
1/14How do you calculate working hours?
A working hours calculator finds the time from each shift's start to its end, subtracts unpaid breaks, and adds the paid minutes for the week. Enter one or more shifts to see daily totals, decimal hours, and hours above your chosen overtime threshold. Overnight shifts are handled automatically.
How to use
- 1Add each shift. Choose its starting day, enter the start and end times, and add any unpaid break in minutes.
- 2Check the row total. The paid duration appears immediately. An end earlier than the start is treated as the following day and marked overnight.
- 3Set the threshold. Adjust the weekly overtime threshold to match the rule or target you need to compare against.
- 4Use the weekly summary. Review paid, gross, break, regular, overtime, decimal, and daily totals, then copy the summary if needed.
Who it's for
- Hourly workers checking a weekly timesheet before submitting it to payroll.
- Freelancers and contractors converting several work sessions into invoice-ready decimal hours.
- Shift workers adding evening and overnight work without doing midnight rollover by hand.
- Managers and coordinators reviewing planned hours, unpaid breaks, and workload against a weekly target.
The calculator works entirely in your browser and does not upload or save your schedule. It uses exact minute totals, so a 30-minute lunch is deducted as 0.5 decimal hours rather than rounded away. The overtime split is only a planning aid: set the threshold that applies to your workplace and confirm payroll or legal rules separately.
FAQ
Is the working hours calculator free?
Yes. The calculator is free, needs no account, and has no download. You can add up to 14 shifts in one weekly calculation, which also allows split shifts on the same day.
Is my work schedule uploaded or saved?
No. Your days, times, breaks, and totals stay in the current browser tab. The calculation runs locally and does not send the schedule to a server or save it to an account.
How many shifts can I calculate?
You can calculate up to 14 shifts at once. That covers two shifts per day across a seven-day week. Add separate rows for split shifts, or clear rows you do not need.
How are lunch and other breaks deducted?
Enter the total unpaid break for a shift in minutes. The calculator subtracts that number from the gross time between start and end. A break must be shorter than the shift, and paid breaks should not be entered.
Can it calculate an overnight shift?
Yes. When the end time is earlier than the start, the calculator treats the end as the next day. A shift from 22:00 to 06:00 is therefore eight gross hours before any unpaid break is deducted.
How do I convert hours and minutes to decimal hours?
The calculator divides total paid minutes by 60. For example, 7 hours 30 minutes is 7.5 decimal hours, while 7 hours 20 minutes is about 7.33. The displayed decimal total is rounded for reading; the internal weekly total stays in whole minutes.
Does the overtime total match payroll law?
Not necessarily. The tool simply places paid minutes above your chosen weekly threshold in the overtime column. Overtime rules can depend on country, region, contract, daily limits, and pay period, so confirm the rule that applies to you.
Is this also a time card or timesheet calculator?
Yes. Working hours calculator, work hours calculator, time card calculator, and timesheet calculator often describe the same weekly task: add clock-in and clock-out times, subtract unpaid breaks, and total the paid hours.
